The Yoga Party:
Philosophical Writings

    Introduction to the Yoga Party

The Yoga Party is a political party. It is intended to be an alternative to the status quo. Certainly much of the world is being politicized and westernized. But with the interchange between East and West it is inevitable that the West too will be changed. The question comes up, how can a philosophy, a way of life be politicized? Politics is part of everyone’s existence. It’s part of how we understand ourselves and the world. It also is a way that we order society so that it can function properly. In this manner it is part and parcel of the human experience, and nothing permeates the human existence than its understanding of a common unity between us all.
The Yoga Party preaches no political dogma. The Yoga Party only wants all to find their most fully realized existence. No one is excluded from the Yoga Party. No one is shown preference or is marginalized. This is because ultimately we are composed of the same, let’s call it spiritual matter. What is spiritual matter you might ask? Well let’s save that for a later time. Suffice it to say that this spiritual matter of which we all belong shares in the trial and tribulations of the material existence. Having this in common all share the same stake in our destiny, rich and poor, black and white, male and female, even plants and animals.
This is a party of peace. No violence dwells here. But also we are joined in a unity of being. Being sentient beings we all suffer. According to Aurobindo this suffering masks our higher nature of joy and bliss. Nevertheless in our material existence we all dwell in the darkness of the Socratic cave. We are tortured by our thoughts, feelings, hopes and dreams. Certainly we are happy, at least we like to think there is some satisfaction in life, but it is all too common that we wonder why me? How come I made that mistake, why did that person leave me? Why did my love die? Therefore we all share this common bond.
The materialist West emphasizes the material relations of existence, especially private property. We are taught to worship the rich and often the newly rich are referred to as “stars” that shine so brightly bathing us in their light. Role models are paraded by, shaping our attitudes and our existence. Yet when we realize we are all the product of the primordial stew and have a common stake in our existence, we come to realize rich or poor we share a common bond. We are indoctrinated with the idea that those that are wealthier are happier; have more satisfying love. Perhaps, but with the fulfillment of these desires comes an even greater suffering when these bonds fail.
